Labor Market Trends in Russia, 2026

The labor market has undergone a paradigm shift: employers used to compete for candidates; now candidates compete for vacancies. Competition comes not only from external applicants but also from internal employees, which has fundamentally changed hiring logic. At the same time, there is a growing shortage of the managers and professionals who influence the bottom line: company profitability, product quality and process efficiency. Structural unemployment is rising. A wave of layoffs has swept through nearly every industry and continues today, releasing onto the market employees who have long been valuable to their organizations. Amid market shifts, volatile supply and demand, and ongoing turbulence, many companies have an opportunity to strengthen their position by building new, high-performing teams that bring energy and raise their competitiveness, provided they act in time.

Internal hiring does not guarantee results

Employers typically consider internal candidates first. It is cheaper and faster, but it carries certain risks. Internal employees often fail to meet the evolving requirements of the business, and within six months the search starts over. For a recruitment agency, this is the new reality: we are no longer responsible solely for "filling roles"; we solve the business problem that arises when "internal hiring has not worked."

Candidates' salary expectations are disconnected from reality

Candidates expect a significant pay increase when changing jobs, but companies are willing to pay a premium only to those who can deliver tangible business value and genuinely strengthen the function. As a result, time-to-hire increases. In most cases, employers still select candidates who fit within budget. One of the advantages of working with an agency is the ability to manage candidate and client expectations through compensation benchmarking, market assessments and research insights.

Companies are not advertising their vacancies

In the era of auto-applications and bots, the quality of results from open sources is declining. Employers are therefore turning to other channels to fill roles: referrals, employee referral programs, external contractors, professional communities and proprietary talent pools.

Age is no longer a barrier: results are what matter

The corporate sector has moved decisively away from age bias. Businesses are actively launching hiring programs for employees over 50 (for example, Magnit, Power Machines and Tele2). The trend also works in the opposite direction: more and more young leaders are appearing in companies (Biocad, S7, T-Bank).

Digitalization

Businesses are actively adopting integrated talent acquisition ecosystems that combine employee data, communication systems and services. Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly the leading trend in HR digitalization today, but only when it is used by professionals.

Recruitment agencies are no longer mere "intermediaries"; they are strategic partners that deliver solutions.

We:

  • Have access to an extensive professional network and build a pipeline of passive candidates

  • Assess skills, not just résumés

  • Work with young top executives (aged 25–35)

  • Offer our clients placement guarantees

  • Understand and deliver a compelling value proposition to our clients in a talent-scarce market
